About the Event
GreensCAN, ‘draw a line in the sand’ - Action Plan
Aim: This action aims to draw attention to two main campaign messages as well as linking in a local climate and or nature destroying campaign.
GreensCAN is NOT aiming to get anyone arrested for this action.
Who: This action needs only one person to take part and one person to record video, take photos and support.
Why: The globe is at crisis point. We need to put pressure on the government to act now.
Where: The action could take place at a site or proposed site where a climate crisis intensifying industry is operating or proposed to operate or where nature is being destroyed or proposed to be destroyed. If there is no such issue in your local area, you could choose the MPs office, local or County Council or any other location deemed suitable.
NB// the aim of this action is NOT to cause a disturbance so you should not block any access points. We do not wish to distract from the important messages.
What: lay a bedsheet on the ground, pour sand along the middle width, record a message to camera and draw a line in the sand either with your hand or with a broom handle or similar if you prefer to stay standing. The bedsheet could have your messaging written on it. One side is the destructive choices of our current business as usual methods of living and on the other the two Green Party campaign messages and a message relating to your local issue.
- Stop polluting our air
- Stop destroying nature
Plus, your local issue eg: ‘Stop Portland Waste Incinerator’.
Examples of local campaigns that tie in with these messages (not an exclusive list);
- Oil wells
- Waste incinerators
- Airport expansions
- New roads
- Building on green sites
- Substandard building
- Pesticide use
If you don’t have a fitting local campaign, you can choose any that appeal to you or simply focus on the two core Green Party messages.
Example of messaging for the other side of the line;
- ‘Continue destroying our children’s future!’
There will be a full legal briefing doc
